What should you assess before transferring a client?

Assessing the client’s ability to assist and the safety of the environment is crucial before transferring a client for several reasons. While considering the client’s preferences and comfort with the aide are important for maintaining rapport and dignity, these factors do not directly address the immediate physical safety and capability needed for the transfer. The aide's lifting capabilities, though important, are secondary to assessing the client and environment, as an attempted transfer without understanding the dynamics can lead to accidents. Thus, a comprehensive assessment focused on the client’s abilities and environmental safety forms the foundation of a successful and safe transfer process.
